"Boi Dalahäst #01.2025" — Fine art print — 50x70 cm — Unframed — Signed edition of 75 pcs
The Dala horse is a symbol of Swedish tradition, but here it takes its place in an unexpected setting – alone in the stillness of the forest, illuminated by the warm glow of the sunset. The artwork captures the meeting point between the man-made and the natural, between culture and landscape.
By placing the horse in a living forest environment, I wanted to highlight the contrasts – the hand-painted wood against the organic backdrop, the static against the ever-changing.
The Dala horse originates from Dalarna, where it began being made of wood in the 1600s as a simple toy for children. The first horses were handcrafted and often unadorned. In the 1700s, artisans in Dalarna started decorating the horses with colorful patterns, often inspired by nature. In the 1800s, the distinctive Dalahäst emerged, with its bold colors and detailed paintings, becoming a well-known craft. The horse became a symbol of Dalarna and Swedish traditions, and in the 1900s, it spread internationally as a representative of Swedish culture. Today, the Dala horse is both a popular souvenir and an artistic symbol of Swedish folk art and craftsmanship.
